Sambiya River Lodge

Sambiya River Lodge: is centrally located in the famous Murchison Falls National Park and is only 20 minutes from the top of the falls. This lodge is a perfect location for those who want to experience the unique ambiance of Africa and it also gives you a picture on how a typical African man used to live in the grass thatched house to avoid too much heat and having environmentally friendly surrounding. The twenty thatched cottages include either one or two bedrooms with twin or double beds and each of the 26 bedrooms has its own private bathroom facilities as well as a veranda from which guests can relax and enjoy the tranquility of Africa. These self-contained cottages have amenities like hot water, showers and comfortable beds all with mosquito nests for your comfortable sleep. You will enjoy masala tea delivered to the front door first thing in the morning and guests enjoy it while watching the sunrise. Cottages are equipped with rechargeable emergency solar lights but clients are advised to carry flashlights and spare batteries with them on safari.

The open fronted lodged allows a panoramic vista of hills as well as game viewing along the Sambiya River and the adjacent grass covered flood plain. The surrounding area is known for viewing numerous species of bird life. Family cottages are also available consisting of two rooms with an interconnection door.  Only one camp bed and/or baby cot is allowed per room since the rooms are not large enough to accommodate a third full size twin bed and mosquito nets are provided on all beds as well as baby cots. For clients seeking low-priced accommodation, Sambiya River Lodge offers twelve thatched bandas some of which that share bathroom facility blocks and three self-contained bandas (one double and two triples).

Guests take their meals in the Lodge dining area (storage, preparation and consumption of food in or outside of the rooms is strictly prohibited since it entices “unwelcome visitors”). For most of the year the park is hot by day and cool by night and a swimming pool offers a break from those African afternoons. You will also have the full bar and ice for a drink after a long day of exploring the park.
